For more than 130 years, Fergus Falls schools have prepared students for success. It wasn't always easy. The very first classes were held in what had to be an "aromatic" horse barn on the Ottertail River and only a month after starting, the first teacher eloped! More than one school has burned down and sometimes the various native languages such as Norwegian and German made teaching more difficult. But the love for the schools has also shown through these many years. Even now, with new challenges, budget concerns and an uncertain world, people realize the value of a Fergus Falls Public School education. The 544 Education Foundation's goal is to meet some of those challenges with your help. The Foundation, incorporated as a non-profit 501 (c) (3) in September of 2000, provides additional resources to make more future success stories. The Foundation's priority is students. It doesn't get more basic than that. If you're a graduate or friend of Fergus Falls High School, welcome! Look around, make contacts, give us feedback or your news and please consider joining the Foundation. Memberships help keep us going; larger gifts can make a difference in the life of a child. |

Jim Iverson has been a music educator in the Fergus Falls Public Schools for 27 years. During that time, the music department has received many honors, including being named a Grammy Signature School, being named one of the100 Best Communities for Music Education (twice), three performances at the Minnesota Music Educator’s Association Convention, four performances at the International Lions Parade with 2 first place finishes, a performance at the National Cherry Blossom Parade, a performance at the 2009 Inaugural Parade, and 25 consecutive years of FFHS students in the All-State Honor Band. Mr. I has affected so many lives in the school district and the community through every day events. Whether it was in rehearsals with his concert bands, performing traditional marches in summer marching, honoring the men and women of the military, or performing at Mayor Kelly Ferber’s Funeral, Mr. Iverson was always willing to dive in and get the job done. In honor of Mr. I’s retirement, the Fergus Falls Band Boosters is having a piece of music commissioned in his honor. Renowned composer Sam Hazo has begun work on a piece titled “On the Shoulders of Giants.” The title is in reference to the following quote: "… we are like dwarfs on the shoulders of giants, so that we can see more than they, and things at a greater distance, not by virtue of any sharpness of sight on our part, or any physical distinction, but because we are carried high and raised up by their giant size." -Bernard of Chartres |

Over 50 alumni performed in the Second Annual Alumni Pep Band in the pregame portion of the 2011 Fergus Falls High School Homecoming Football Game. The evening began with a social hour to reminisce and get instruments handed out. Next was an hour of rehearsal (with a little help from the current FFHS Wind Ensemble pep band members, along with a few squeaks and giggles from the alumni). Finally at 6 pm the group headed over to the home stands of Otter Stadium to perform. It was a wonderful experience for the alumni and a great sounding group! Thanks to all who participated in the event. (This will be an annual event. Homecoming 2012 will be Friday, October 5.) "Blue Suede Shoes" Video
